Lake City, MI (Saturday, September 8, 2018) - While mother nature has kept mostly to herself for the American Ethanol 2018 season, the American Ethanol Modified Tour Presented by Allstar Performance (AEMODT) has had their fair share of challenges. Thanks to a brush with some heavy rainfall last weekend, the AEMODT is again ready to head back to Lake City, Michigan’s Merritt Speedway to compete in the YellowHose.com 30.
Some racing action was completed during the Labor Day weekend from Hartford Speedway. Curt Spalding went on to collect his first career win with the AEMODT, while Jacob Poel managed to open up a nice lead over David Mielke in the 2018 points standings. Poel, who finished third at Hartford, went into last weekend with a slim 19-point advantage over Mielke. Mielke was involved in two cautions during the Lane Automotive 30, then second caution put him out of the race. Poel now sits comfortably with a 51-point advantage over Mielke, who is now trying to hold off an attack from third place Chad Bauer.
Bauer sits just one point back of Mielke going into the event at Merritt. For Bauer, he has seen the podium four times in 2018, including every stop at Merritt so far this season. As for Mielke, to say his season has been a rollercoaster is to say the least. Between engine trouble, and on track misfortune, Mielke has either been in victory lane or in the pits, with really no in between so far this year.
